We are delighted to share our latest bumper edition parent newsletter, brimming with updates, achievements, and the inspiring stories that make our school community so special. We hope you enjoy reading it.
Message from the Head
Pupils have been thoroughly enjoying this Summer Term, with lots of inspiring and exciting activities to participate in. Over the past two weeks Pre-Prep children engaged in a variety of activities, such as their first School Disco, a visit to Hobbledown Farm, a drama activity with Mary Seacole and transition visits to their forthcoming year groups. It’s wonderful to see our youngest learners so confident and immersed in their learning experiences.
Residentials Week saw pupils in Y3-8 embark on adventures to a variety of destinations immersing themselves in diverse environments and activities tailored to their age and development stage.
Lower School pupils faced exciting Bushcraft challenges during an overnight residential trip, building confidence and a sense of accomplishment. Year 6 pupils visited the Isle of Wight, engaging in activities like coasteering, fossil hunting, coastal walks, and exploring a dinosaur museum and The Garlic Farm, while gaining insights into conservation and sustainability. Year 7 travelled to St David’s, Pembrokeshire, for surfing, kayaking, coasteering, tasting bugs, and a sustainable business workshop, learning about social and environmental impact through these adventures. Our Year 8 pupils had an enriching and fun-filled trip to Italy, where they celebrated their time at Feltonfleet and strengthened their friendships through various water sports and activities.
These trips are incredibly valuable for pupils’ personal growth, helping to build independence, resilience, and teamwork as pupils face new challenges away from home.
The Scholars’ Art Exhibition in the Ashbee Theatre highlighted the artistic talents of Year 6 to 8 pupils. Under the guidance of Mr. Coetzee, our artists displayed and discussed their work with parents and friends, providing inspiration for younger pupils who visited the exhibition during the day. Watch out for a full feature on this in our next newsletter edition.
Tonight we look forward to welcoming Greg Searle, Olympic Gold Medallist rower to speak at the annual Sports Review of the Year, a great opportunity to celebrate the commitment, achievement of our senior athletes.
The FoF Summer Fayre was a fantastic event, brilliantly supported by parents, pupils, and staff. Its resounding success reflected the collaborative efforts of the Friends of Feltonfleet reps. It had something for everyone and created a memorable day for all our pupils and families.
This term continues to be full of exciting events, so please keep checking your calendars. I look forward to seeing you at the various induction evenings, sports days, concerts, and prize-giving ceremonies.
YEARs 3 & 4 Bushcraft Residential
Last week, our Years 3 and Year 4 pupils had an unforgettable one-night residential stay at the Bushcraft camp, near Penshurst Place in Kent. The children delighted in playing in the woods, letting their imaginations run wild. They cooked burgers on their homemade fires, and engaged in exciting camouflage games. They also learned to set traps, practised First Aid, and enjoyed singing songs around the campfire, with the highlight being melting marshmallows!
For many, it was their first experience away from home, and they thoroughly enjoyed sleeping in bell tents with their friends, even if not much sleep was had! It was a fantastic adventure filled with fun, learning, and bonding. The Lower School teachers are proud of how the pupils behaved, upholding our school’s core values whilst away. Bushcraft staff commented on how respectful and polite they all were.

YEAR 5 shropshire RESIDENTIAL TRIP
Last week, Year 5 embarked on an exciting residential trip to Shropshire. This trip was aimed at promoting teamwork and resilience while developing a love for the outdoors through a variety of adventure activities, including archery, an underground maze, low ropes, a zip wire, rifles, abseiling, fencing, and climbing.
The trip was a resounding success. Pupils returned home with enhanced self-confidence, stronger friendships, and a host of new skills. The trip provided memorable experiences and fostered personal growth and a deeper connection to nature. Feedback from both pupils and staff has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their enjoyment and sense of achievement. Here is what the pupils said about it....

YEAR 6 ISLE OF WIGHT RESIDENTIAL TRIP
Monday: We’re having a fantastic time on our school trip! Today, the pupils enjoyed a smooth ferry crossing, followed by an informative site orientation. The headland walk offered breath-taking views and plenty of excitement. Everyone is having a wonderful time and making great memories!
Tuesday: Today was another amazing day! The pupils had an exhilarating time coasteering, where they explored the rugged coastline, climbed rocks, and leaped into the water, all while learning about teamwork and resilience. We walked along Compton Beach, part of the Jurassic Coastline, where we saw some dinosaur caste footprints and conducted a beach clean. Afterwards, they participated in an engaging sustainability workshop. This evening, they’re excitedly preparing presentations to share what they've learned about preserving our planet. It’s been a day full of adventure and valuable insights!
Wednesday: Today started with a hearty breakfast (bacon sandwiches, pastries, fruit and natural yoghurt) to fuel us for an incredible day of sailing! The pupils took to the water, learning the basics of navigation, handling sails, and steering the boats. They loved the hands-on experience and the thrill of mastering the waves. This evening, we'll be reflecting on our sailing adventures and discussing what they've learned. It's been a day of fun and discovery!
Thursday: Today was a delightful end to Day 4! We began with a refreshing early morning yoga session to energise the pupils for a fascinating day. Our coastline walk for dinosaur fossils rocked, with many exciting discoveries. The garlic farm a-peeled to our senses and pupils enjoyed making their own garlicious bread. They totally crushed it! Tonight, we’re capping off our adventure with a lively quiz.
I enjoyed sailing and I found capsizing the boat very fun! The coasteering was great and I loved jumping of the rocks into the sea. I overcame a fear of small spaces and the food was so really good - especially breakfast!
Charlotte P
I loved sailing & coasteering and exploring the caves. I really enjoyed the downtime with my friends on the field and in the tents.
Poppy Q
I really liked the school trip. My highlight was my birthday on Friday; I felt very valued and special. They gave me cake and my friends gave me presents.

YEAR 7 Pembrokeshire RESIDENTIAL TRIP
Our Year 7 pupils recently enjoyed an unforgettable residential trip to Wales, packed with exciting activities and valuable learning experiences.
The adventures began with a boat excursion around Ramsey island where pupils saw lots of seals, some porpoises, and a variety of birds. This close encounter with wildlife was thrilling and provided a deeper appreciation for marine life.
Coasteering was definitely a highlight. Pupils braved the rugged coastline, up and down cliffs, scrambled over rocks, and repeatedly jumped into the bracing sea; building both courage and teamwork.
In addition to such physical challenges, pupils participated in sustainability workshops where they learned about environmental conservation and practical ways to live more sustainably. The pupils worked collaboratively to pitch a business idea that would help towards the UN sustainable development goals. This hands-on education was both informative and inspiring, emphasising the importance of protecting our planet
.
Camping under the stars and braving the capricious Welsh weather conditions added a sense of camaraderie and togetherness that, although unintentional, really added an extra layer to an already unforgettable trip.
Rounding off our excursions with a trip to the Bug Farm was another highlight, offering a unique opportunity to explore the fascinating world of insects and their role in our ecosystem. The farm tour was both educational and fun, sparking curiosity and interest in the natural world.
Overall, the Year 7 trip to Wales was a fantastic blend of adventure, education, and friendship. The pupils returned home with new skills, greater environmental awareness, and a stronger bond with their peers. We are proud of our year 7’s for representing our school so well, for leaving people and places better than when they found them, and for their good manners and politeness throughout the trip.

YEAR 8 italy RESIDENTIAL TRIP
Last week, Year 8 had an incredible trip to Italy filled with water sports, water parks, beach trips and lots of pasta!
After our travel day on Monday, Year 8 were ready for their continental breakfast and their morning activities. With wind and rain postponing the water sports, the children had an action packed start with swimming and football until lunch. Once everyone had eaten their body weight in pasta, it was time for our first trip to the hotel’s private beach. With the sun now shining, the children had an amazing afternoon with beach volleyball, beach golf, sunbathing, sandcastle building, digging to Australia, more football and enjoying making memories with their friends.
The highlight of Tuesday was definitely paddle boarding. Wind did not stop Feltonfleet and the children took to the Olympic sized swimming pool with paddle boards to learn how to stand up, paddle, spin in a circle and reverse (safe to say there were quite a few splashes!).
Wednesday was a delight, with the children being let loose on the hotel’s water slides in the morning. With slide races and whirlpool making as the top activities, the children played with their friends until they were too hungry to splash anymore. As a reward for such impeccable behaviour, the children were given some of their euros to spend in the local cafe after lunch. Drinks, ice creams and sweet treats purchased, Year 8 sat in the sun drenched courtyard and relaxed with their friends.
With the weather improving by Wednesday afternoon, the most asked question was ‘Can we go in the sea now?’. With the all clear from the lifeguard, we raced to the ocean with joyful abandon to take part in lots of skim ball, wave jumping, swimming, wave riding competitions and even a bit of snorkelling. Despite dinner calling, the children were incredibly reluctant to leave the warm waters and required herding out by staff.
On Thursday, the children were invited to spend the day partying in style at the biggest water park in (the north east of) Italy. It was a blissful day of wave machines, pulse raising slides, relaxing rides, sunbathing on beach chairs, buying burgers and ice creams and watching dramatic pirate shows. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend our final full day and for the children to get to reap the rewards of all their hard work this year.
Good things come to those who wait and Friday was the day we had all been waiting for. Sun shining, pan flat sea, and low wind meant only one thing… water sports! To make up for lost time, the children took part in paddle boarding, mega paddle boarding (boards big enough for ten at a time!), kayaking and more sea swimming. The children had the most incredible experience in the sea, with the particular highlights being backflipping into the sea from floatation devices, chasing fish and catching crabs. One group had their very own David Attenborough moment and even got to watch a crab shed its shell!
Thank you Year 8 for a brilliant trip. Your behaviour was exceptional, you were fantastic company and your teachers thoroughly enjoyed sharing this special week with you.

Equity, diversity & inclusion
Rainbow Laces for Pride month
This June, to celebrate Pride Month, all our games staff have been wearing rainbow laces to show support for LGBTQ+ inclusion and diversity at our school. We invite all pupils to join in by wearing rainbow laces too! It's a great way for us to come together and show that we believe in equality and acceptance for everyone. Let’s lace up for Pride and stand together!
Family Week
As part of Pride Month, the pupils from Pre-Prep to Upper School attended a special assembly this week with a focus on the richness of diverse family structures.
Members of our own school community shared their individual family stories and structures. The pupils learned that families come in many shapes and sizes and are all unique and valuable, whether they are a nuclear family, a single-parent family, an extended family, a same-gender parent family or an adoptive family.
The message to all is that what unites all these different family structures is the love, care, and support that family members provide for one another.
In Pre-Prep the children have listened to stories being read by members of the Senior Leadership Team about different family structures. In form classes, the pupils have shared their understanding of family.
As a School we continue to celebrate and respect the diversity that underpins our dignity and personal differences and visibility.

life in pre-prep
During the recent weeks in Summer Term, our Pre-Prep pupils have created so many happy childhood memories with their friends. Wherever we can bring learning to life with a visit or a visitor, pupils can build connections through their engagement with real people, artefacts and environments.
Hobbledown farm trip
Sixty Nursery and Reception children, supported by lots of staff and parent reps, boarded two coaches for Hobbledown Farm where they experienced nature first hand. They saw a range of wildlife and got to handle some for a closer look. Sincere thanks to the parents supporting this trip.
Year 1 RE
In RE, Year 1 have been exploring artefacts of the Jewish faith as they learn about what Shabbat means for Jewish families.
Year 1's first visit to the art studio and adventure playground
Year 1 have visited the Art Studio for an Art lesson with Mr Coetzee and the Adventure Playground as part of their transition journey into Year 2 in September.
The Year 1 pupils eagerly embarked on their first visit to the art studio, their faces alight with excitement. They carefully traced the outlines of their hands, creating the foundation for their imaginative masterpieces. With vibrant patterns and bold colours, each child's unique artistic expression blossomed on the paper, filling the studio with a lively burst of creativity.
Year 2 mARY sEACOLE wORKSHOP
The pupils in Year 2 were lucky enough to have a visit from Mary Seacole during their topic of significant people in IPC. Mary Seacole was one of many influential people that the pupils have learnt about, she was well known for breaking social rules and prejudices around the world and the help she gave during the Crimean War.
Pre-prep disco
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children were treated to a fabulous, first ever Pre-Prep Disco. They excitedly dressed up and enjoyed a snack in the garden before taking to the dance floor in Calvi Hall. While some enjoyed the fresh air of the chill out zone in between dances, others danced the night away alongside their teachers and members of the Friends of Feltonfleet - to the tunes of DJ Roberta on the decks.
With support for the trip, the Disco and the Summer Fayre which was enjoyed by so many all in the month of June, the Friends of Feltonfleet have partnered with us to provide so many happy times for the Pre-Prep Pupils, which are immensely appreciated.

Life in Lower school
Year 3 Assembly
Pupils from 3SS presented an exceptional assembly to the rest of Lower School last week. The assembly was focused on teamwork and celebrated members of support staff who help to make Feltonfleet the wonderful school that it is! The pupils spoke with poise and confidence, showing great maturity and sincerity.
I was a bit nervous at first but then I found it really fun!
Aoife-Belle P
It was very nerve-wracking and also the person I was talking about was in the audience. I really enjoyed it though!

Exploring Faiths and Beliefs in the Lower School
This term, our Lower School pupils have embarked on a journey to explore various faiths and beliefs, with a particular focus on Judaism and Islam. Through this initiative, we have delved into how different religions celebrate important festivals, fostering a deeper understanding of the diverse world around us.
In Year 3, our pupils have been exploring Judaism, uncovering the rich history and traditions of this ancient faith. They have learned about key figures such as Moses and the significant events that have shaped Jewish culture and beliefs.
Year 4 pupils have turned their attention to Islam, gaining insight into the foundations of this major world religion. They have studied the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the core principles that guide Muslims around the globe.
Throughout these lessons, both year groups have also examined the beginnings of the Abrahamic religions, identifying unique features and shared stories. By studying figures like Jesus, Moses, and Muhammad (PBUH), our pupils have appreciated the common threads that connect these faiths while recognising their distinct characteristics.
Here’s what some of our Lower School pupils have to say about the importance of learning about different religions:
If you were visiting another country it is good to know how their culture works.
Ned P
It's important to learn more about other religions so you do not have to ask awkward questions when you meet people with different beliefs.
Wilbur H
When you meet someone, you know
how to treat them with respect.
Rory D
To respect people's differences.
Connie A
We should learn about other religions because everybody is special in their own way.
Cressida S
By embracing this diverse curriculum, we hope to nurture a sense of empathy, respect, and curiosity in our pupils, preparing them to become thoughtful and open-minded global citizens.

Focus on Year 3 DT
In Design and Technology, Year 3 explored structures and how to improve structural strength.
Andrew, Ellie and Emma worked as a team to achieve their goal. Here is what they had to say...
We found it hard connecting the sticks into the jelly sweet, it was even harder trying to put two sticks into the sweet. We were trying to do this to make the structure stronger to hold the glass bowl.
We liked making unique shapes and challenging ourselves. It was really fun as we used materials that we wouldn't normally use.

Focus on Year 5 re
Year 5: A year of DISCOVERY AND WONDER
We've had a jam-packed year of learning in Year 5, filled with exploration, discovery, and plenty of fun! Let's take a journey through our amazing curriculum highlights.
Autumn Adventures: Inspirational People & Milestones
We kicked off the year by diving into the lives of 'Inspirational People'. We reflected on who inspires us and explored stories of individuals who have literally changed the world. Our journey then took us to the topic of marriage, a significant milestone in life. We delved into what relationships are and investigated how different religious groups celebrate marriage. It was fascinating to see the diverse ways love and commitment are honoured around the world.
Lighting Up Our Learning: Festivals and Hope
As the days grew darker and shorter, we turned our focus to the theme of light in religion and how it symbolises hope. We celebrated and learned about festivals like Diwali, Hanukkah, and Christmas. Understanding what light represents in these celebrations added a warm glow to our studies.
Springtime with Buddhism & Creation Debates
In the Spring term, we immersed ourselves in Buddhism. We discovered who Buddha was, the origins of Buddhism, and the religion’s core beliefs. We had fun creating and playing ‘Karma’ Snakes and Ladders games and we even tried the Lotus pose - some were more successful than others! Next, we turned our curiosity towards the big question: How was the world created? We examined scientific theories alongside religious stories, engaging in spirited debates about the merits of both perspectives.
Exploring Places of Worship
Our current topic has us investigating places of worship. We're learning about various religious buildings, why people visit them, and what we might find there. It's been eye-opening to discover the commonalities between different places of worship, highlighting how much we share despite our differences.
A Taste of Sikh Hospitality
A highlight of our exploration was experiencing a Sikh 'Langar'. This special event taught us about Sikh traditions of providing free meals for all, emphasising equality and community. It was a delightfully delicious lesson in generosity and togetherness.
Year 5 has been a whirlwind of learning and excitement. We're proud of all we've accomplished and can't wait to see what the next year brings!

Focus on Year 7 mfl
Our Year 7 pupils have recently had the opportunity to stretch their leadership skills by becoming Spanish teachers for one afternoon to their peers in Year 3.
While following the IPC curriculum, which this term covers Earth and Space, Year 7 pupils carefully planned their Spanish lessons on the solar system and its planets. These included vocabulary relevant to this topic, such as the names of the planets, their colours and position within the solar system represented by numbers.
They applied their endless creativity and strong collaborative skills to plan and deliver lessons that included fun activities, songs, games and quizzes that fully engaged all three Year 3 classes.
The experience allowed both Year groups to work together while enjoying themselves and learn some key vocabulary in Spanish. The Year 7 displayed incredible leadership skills by taking on the task with exceptional levels of responsibility and maturity. ¡Bravo Año 7!

Year 8 Librarian Book Buying Trip
On Wednesday 19 June, the Year 8 Pupil Librarians travelled to Heaths Booksellers in Sutton for the annual book buying trip.
They were each given a budget to stick to and had to consider different genres, interests and age groups when selecting books.
The trip was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The new books are on display in the library, and are going out fast, so come and have a look!
Well done, you all did a fab job.

The Mystery of the Forever Weekend
By Lisa Thompson
MRS BURNSIDE
LIBRARIAN
The kids at school are picking on Cory because of his cheesy daytime TV presenter father and he's struggling with lessons. Ahead of a Monday comprising a maths test and another lonely lunchbreak, Cory wishes that the weekend would never end... and when he wakes up the next day, time has reset itself to Sunday morning. This is amazing!
He can re-watch his favourite football team win a big match and have pizza for dinner - and do-over some less brilliant things, plus play the lottery to win! But Cory soon gets frustrated with being stuck in this time loop - he may win the lottery but the next day never arrives when he can spend the money. He must break the curse and return to normality - but how?

Tennis IAPS
The Tennis IAPS was held in Bristol this year and we entered an U13 pair and two U11 pairs to represent the school. The fact that we felt confident about entering three pairs into this national event, speaks volumes of how far tennis has progressed at Feltonfleet.
It was a gruelling two days of intense tennis, with the the U13 boys (Daniel G and Michael G) playing a total of 4 singles matches (best of three sets) and 4 doubles matches (best of three sets) in total. A slightly later start in the first round gave the boys a chance to rest up and tackle their first match with real gusto, beating Taunton convincingly. A quick break for some highly nutritious fuel (Krispy Kremes!) gave us the energy we needed to beat Stonyhurst…the highlight being Daniel’s ‘Golden Set’ in which he didn’t drop a point! The boys took their laser focus and tennis nous into day two, where they fought hard to beat the hosts Clifton College before advancing to the final against Westminster Under School. It was a seesaw match that had all the drama a final deserves, with Michael winning his championship tiebreak to take it to a deciding doubles rubber for the title. It was a privilege to watch both schools fight it out, and despite some unbelievable defensive work and skilful net play, Westminster proved too strong for us and were worthy winners. Huge congratulations to Daniel and Michael for their wonderfully successful season. Runners up nationally is an incredible achievement and we are all so proud of the boys.
The U11 boys had a bigger pool of schools to contend with, with over 32 entering the tournament, some entering 2 teams. Feltonfleet B (Miron S and William L) had a walkover in the first match, meaning their next match was a tough one against hosts, Clifton, but we took it in our stride and won convincingly. Wonderful serving mixed with very well timed drop shots steered us through. Likewise for Feltonfleet A (Barn F and Jay K) who comprehensively beat St Neot’s B, before a much sterner test against Aldwickbury, the 8 seeds for the tournament. To come through that match without dropping a set was an impressive statement. The quarter finals against first seeds, St Faith’s, and fourth seeds, The Perse, proved a step too far, but we still had Tuesday’s matches to see how highly we could rank. A tough start against St Neot’s A for Miron and William, narrowly losing 2-1, meant their next match was to decide if they finished 7th or 8th. They dusted off their disappointment from the previous match and saw off Westminster B (6th seeds) 3-0 in a stunning display to finish 7th in the country! Barn and Jay saw off Westminster B comfortably meaning their final match against St Neot’s A was to decide if they finished 5th or 6th nationally. In what can only be described as the feistiest and most intense match of the two days, being decided by a final set doubles match, the boys came through victorious, to secure 5th spot nationally.
An epic write up for an epic season and I can’t thank the boys enough. They represented the school formidably, both in terms of their tennis and their attitude and discipline around the event. I couldn’t be prouder.

House T-SHIRT pHOTO CHALLENGE
Over half term, we held our House T-Shirt Photo Challenge, encouraging all pupils (parents and staff included too!) to capture and share their house spirit in creative ways. From over 50 entries received, we've seen some amazing photos taken in your House t-shirts at various locations, including atop scaffolding, next to erupting volcanoes, on the cricket field, and at the beach.
The creativity and enthusiasm behind each photo was brilliant to see. Well done to everyone who submitted a photo —you all received house points for your fantastic contributions!
In addition to our photo challenge, pupils have also been hard at work on another meaningful project: the Kindness Stones. These beautifully decorated stones, each bearing messages of positivity and encouragement, will be displayed around the school grounds. The aim is to brighten someone's day, promote kindness, and remind everyone of the power of a simple, thoughtful gesture.
A thank you to all who participated in painting and placing these kindness stones. Keep an eye out for these little gems of positivity as you walk around school.
With only two weeks left in the term, there’s still time to make a difference for your house. Whether it’s through acts of kindness, or participation in school events, every contribution counts. Let’s continue to support one another and finish the term strong!

We’re delighted to share that Grace Crompton, a former Feltonfleet pupil, will be joining the Games department in September 2024.
Grace is currently a rugby union player for Bristol Bears and GB Rugby 7s, and this week it was announced that Grace has been selected as a member of Team GB Women's Rugby 7s squad for the Paris Olympics!
It is very exciting to have such a talented young sportsperson join our team. Grace will balance her role in the Games team with her continued international play. Additionally, Grace will be our Guest Speaker at this year's Senior Prize Giving.
We are looking forward to welcoming Grace back to Feltonfleet.

I am deeply grateful that you chose to bring mine and my family’s art into your home. It means the world to us that these pieces have found a new home with you, where they can continue to inspire and bring beauty into your everyday life.
Thank you once again for your encouragement, enthusiasm, and support. Your appreciation for my art fuels my passion and creativity. I am looking forward to sharing more of my work with you in the future.

cHARITY pOM pOms
The Year 6 pupils showcased their creativity and their strong desire to support a very worthwhile cause by making and selling woollen Pom-Poms under the guidance of Mrs. Butcher. Their efforts raised over £75 for the Cherry Trees Charity.
Well done, boys!
We built this Pom-Pom business because we want to do more for the community and we think helping Cherry Trees will help people with some struggles. That’s why we have donated every bit of money we made to Cherry Trees.
Eli S
Eli, Ferdy and I decided, as close friends, to make a business of making and selling Pom-Poms. My input was to give the money to Cherry Trees, the charity the school supports. I did this because my mum works and helps at a charity. One challenge that we had to face was that we were planning to do a big sale but the day before someone bought out the whole stock, so the team had to band together and make enough Pom-Poms for the sale.
Tommy A
I want to just say thank you to our amazing team that have helped us through all the way. Without them I think it would have been impossible to raise as much as we did for Cherry Trees. Our absolutely amazing team is made up of Tommy A, Alex H, James D, Max S, Annabelle B, George B, Ben H, me and our amazing founder Eli S. We managed to raise £75 through making and selling our Pom-Poms.
